Sambar Rice

A simple and delicious Sambar Rice recipe perfect for lunchboxes. It includes soaking tamarind, cooking raw rice and dal, and preparing a flavorful masala with a variety of vegetables.

What you need

cup water

cup cooked rice

cup dal

tsp turmeric powder

tbsp salt

cup water
tbsp oil

tsp mustard seed

garlic

curry leaves
dried chilli

shallot

carrot

drumstick

brinjal

cup water

tbsp ghee

fresh coriander leaves
Instructions
1: Soak tamarind in hot water and keep it aside. 2: Wash and soak the rice and dal for 30 minutes. 3: In a pressure cooker, add the soaked rice and dal. Add water and salt, mix it and let it cook for 4 whistles. Turn off the flame and let the steam reduce gradually. 4: Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, garlic, dry red chillies, and curry leaves and let it crackle. 5: Add the shallots and saute till they turn translucent. 6: Add the carrot, drumstick and saute for 2 minutes. 7: Add sambar powder and mix it well for a minute. 8: Add the brinjal, mix it well and add water and mix it till the masala dissolves in the water. 9: Bring the water to a boil and cover and let it cook on a medium flame for 10 minutes. 10: Add the tamarind water and mix. Keep it aside. 11: Add the vegetable mixture to the cooked rice and dal, mix it till all the ingredients combine evenly. 12: Add ghee, mix it well.
