A nostalgic cake popular among 90s kids, resembling apple shape. Despite its name, it does not contain apples. This dessert features a mix of plain cake crumbs, sugar, milk, and coated with desiccated coconut.
Crumble the cake using your fingers and set aside, yielding around 3 cups of cake crumbs.
In a pan, heat sugar and water together until the sugar dissolves.
Add milk and cook until it starts to thicken, around 3-4 minutes.
Turn the heat to low and add butter, cocoa powder, and desiccated coconut. Mix until there are no lumps.
Add the cake crumbs and mix well. Continue to cook on low heat for 5 minutes or until the mixture turns thick, removing excess moisture.
Turn off the heat and allow it to cool down.
Roll the mixture into balls and coat in desiccated coconut.
Serve the balls as they are, or chilled in the refrigerator.
